Doncaster Schools’ Rowing Association
The club caters for a broad spectrum of abilities with Juniors 11 - 18. Rowing at Doncaster Schools’ Rowing Association is about joining in, making friends, fitness and of course rowing.
The Junior squads dedicated coaching team aims to introduce children to the sport and provide safe enjoyment of the river and rowing.
We have a structure designed to allow young people to achieve their best and succeed at whatever level that may be.
The Coaches of each squad are responsible for setting the appropriate training programmes, defining race schedules and the selection of crews.
The Junior squad has 3 levels:
Development Squad. This is where all juniors start. The aim of this squad is to improve general fitness and learn basic technique and water safety.
Intermediate Squad. This squad is where juniors build on the basics, developing their technical ability and start to compete at regattas if they wish. Technical skills are paramount to the development of good effective rowing and may take years to develop fully. Fitness, core strength and flexibility are important and are an integral part of training for both Rowing and Sculling.
Performance Squad. This is a dedicated group of Juniors as they train 5 days a week, their training programme includes indoor rowing, weights and water sessions. The minimum age for this group is 16. Their goal is to compete at the top national events such as The National Schools Regatta, The British Junior Championships and Henley Royal Regatta.
To progress through these groups coaches take into consideration a Juniors Commitment, Ability, Behaviour and Attitude. Those who the coaches believe have the ability and are ready to progress may be invited to move to the next squad.
