Sue isn't just our Ladies Captain; she's the vibrant heartbeat of our club. Alongside Carol, she steers our ladies' squad with an incredible depth of experience, creating a welcoming and thriving environment for all. Many of our rowers will know Sue from her dedication to the Learn to Row program, where she patiently guides newcomers into the sport. Her commitment extends beyond the local scene, having competed in numerous local and national events, bringing that competitive spirit and wisdom back to our squad. No matter the challenge, Sue always ensures the Ladies squad is looked after, making everyone feel valued and supported on and off the water.
Carol is an invaluable asset to our club, serving as our dedicated Vice Ladies Captain. Working seamlessly alongside Sue, she plays a crucial role in leading and inspiring the ladies' squad. Beyond her leadership, Carol is a highly skilled Level 2 coach, bringing a wealth of expertise to our younger members. She spearheads the Junior Development coaching group, where her knowledge, skills, and genuinely caring nature create an environment where our juniors not only learn to row but also thrive. Carol's commitment truly transcends the club, making a profound impact on everyone she guides.
Complete beginners must take part in a Learn to Row course, in order to learn the basics and be safe on the water. Once graduated from the Learn to Row course, new rowers are developed through our Novice/ Progression group. This is well supported by experienced rowers and the priority is integrating new rowers into both the squad, the wider club and the sport as well. From here you can join the ladies’ masters section. We work closely with our men’s squad and mixed crews are common at all levels of rowing.
Training takes place at the following times:
Novices - Generally train with our Masters section, but have a dedicated water based session on
Sunday 10am-12 noon. These sessions aim to develop the boat skills introduced on the learn to row course.
Masters -
Tuesdays and Thursdays 6pm-8pm,
Saturdays and Sundays 8am-10am. During the Winter this involves indoor sessions, with a programme set by the ladies captain, who is a qualified coach. During the longer days we progress to the water where the emphasise is on gaining confidence (and having fun) in smaller boats.
Seniors
Monday, Wednesday and Friday 6pm-8pm. On water during lighter evenings and indoor training during winter months.
Sunday 7am-10am. Structured and progressive water sessions as directed by our experienced coach, preparing crews for events.
All of our squads use Rowers United to organise training sessions, race entries and asset maintenance.
