Rick Rolt brings over 15 years of dedicated rowing expertise to his role as our Men's Squad Captain, a passion ignited many years ago watching his son discover the sport. Alongside Lee Arthur, Rick leads the men's squad with a remarkable calmness and composure, fostering an environment that inspires excellence. His leadership empowers the squad to push their limits and compete successfully in both local and national events. Rick's deep experience and steady presence are invaluable in guiding our male athletes to achieve their best.
Lee Arthur, our Vice Men's Captain, brings a fresh and dynamic energy to the squad. While he might be newer to rowing than some, his initial exposure to the sport came from years of watching his daughter Alice row and often driving the trailer to our club events, which clearly sparked his own interest! Working closely with Rick, Lee is the driving force behind organizing and ensuring our men's squad sessions run smoothly and effectively. When he's not on the water or meticulously planning the next training session, you'll often find Lee pushing the pace at a park run or, even better, expertly cooking up burgers and sausages at our vibrant club events. His enthusiasm and dedication are a massive asset to the men's squad and the wider club community.
At Doncaster Rowing Club, our Men's section is structured to welcome all abilities, with a Senior section for athletes aged 18 to 27 and a Masters section for those 27 and over. Regardless of age (over 18) or experience, everyone is welcome to join, contributing to the unprecedented growth our men's squad has enjoyed in recent years.
The rowing journey starts with a 6 week learn to row course. From here rowers graduate to our Novice and Progression group. We provide as much water based coaching as possible, and aim to provide our new members with a more thorough taste of our club and the sport. We also ensure that all our novices progress at their own pace. From here members can progress to either our Masters or Senior sections.
Our Masters section is graced with some excellent oarsmen. The aim of this section is to enjoy the social side of the sport and some of our members also compete at local events. Training is less intense although fitness remains an integral part of the sport.
Our Senior section is for those athletes wishing to compete at a higher level. Success has been enjoyed on the national stage, at both the British Masters Regatta and the Vesta Masters Head on the Thames. Training is more intense within this group and we're very proud of what this group has achieved over recent times.
So whatever you're looking for from the sport, we're pretty confident we can provide it at DRC!
All of our squads use Rowers United to organise training sessions, race entries and asset maintenance.
